Apple pie is an American staple, but what happens when we mix pears with it? The Bomb dot com!
Unlike apple pie, this recipe is so simple. It has obvious similarities, but when it comes to the crust, this saves time, plus it's even better. Instead of having to make the crust, refrigerate it, roll it out, hope it fits, hope it looks good, instead you just sprinkle it on top of the apples and pears. It saves so much time. Plus, it's melt in your mouth divine.
Recipe:
Filling
5 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
5 pears, peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoons apple pie spice
pinch of salt
Topping
1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 vegan butter (Earth Balance)
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
dash of apple pie spice
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a baking pan, mix sliced apples, pears, sugar, lemon juice, apple pie spice, and salt.
In a large bowl, mix together the flour and butter with a pastry cutter or fork. Continue to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles a fine crumble. Add the oats, sugar. apple pie spice, lemon juice and salt, and stir into flour mixture. Spread evenly over apples.
Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until topping is golden and crisp.
